About SHABELLE
An education-to-career organization built around the bridge
SHABELLE EDU & CAREER BRIDGE exists to make the path from education into career opportunity clearer for the people who have to walk it. That means students, families, schools, colleges, employers and community organizations, all working from the same understanding.
Why a bridge
The name is the mission
A bridge is not a destination. It is the structure that makes a destination reachable. It exists because two places that matter to each other were separated by something difficult to cross, and someone decided the crossing was worth building.
That is the gap SHABELLE was built for. On one side is education: schools, colleges, programs, effort, years of work. On the other is opportunity: careers, employers, professional life, economic stability. The distance between them is not about ability. It is about navigation, preparation and connection, and those can be taught.
SHABELLE works on the bridge itself, in the space between finishing your education and being genuinely ready for what comes next.
Education
The knowledge and credentials people are building, in whatever form that takes.
Preparation
The translation work that turns what someone has learned into something an employer or institution can act on.
Connection
Real contact between people preparing and the institutions and organizations they are preparing to join.
Who we serve
Four audiences, one connected pathway
SHABELLE is built so that each audience can find its own way in without having to understand the whole system first. The four groups below are the people and organizations this work exists for.

Founder
Abshir Fatule built SHABELLE around the bridge
SHABELLE was founded by Abshir Fatule, who set the organization to a single purpose: making the path from education into career opportunity clearer for people who are navigating it without prior family experience to draw on.
Abshir's own background includes the Somali community, and the experience of working through educational and professional systems that were not designed with recent arrivals in mind informs how SHABELLE approaches its work. That perspective shapes the organization's emphasis on plain explanation, on asking questions without embarrassment, and on treating the unwritten parts of a process as things that should be written down.
SHABELLE serves people of all backgrounds. The organization is not limited to any one community, language or national origin. What it does hold onto is the understanding that unfamiliar systems are hardest for the people who have no one to explain them, and that this is a fixable problem.
We have deliberately not published a detailed personal biography. Rather than fill that space with details we cannot verify, we focus on the organization's mission and the reason it was founded. If you need to reach the founder directly about a partnership or a media enquiry, the details are on our contact page.
What we are, and what we are not
Clarity about our role
It helps to be direct about this, because the education and career space is full of organizations that imply more than they deliver. Here is where SHABELLE sits.
Not a school or university
SHABELLE does not award degrees, credits or credentials, and is not an accredited academic institution.
Not a staffing or recruiting agency
We do not place candidates into jobs, negotiate on anyone's behalf, or take a role in employer hiring decisions.
Not a guarantee of outcomes
Admission decisions belong to colleges and universities. Hiring decisions belong to employers. Our work is preparation and connection.
A support organization
What we do is guidance, programming and connection across the education-to-career transition, delivered honestly and without overclaiming.
